Blow moulding – fast production that demands smart material handling
Blow moulding is a manufacturing process in the plastics industry that is mainly used to manufacture hollow products, or hollow components as they are sometimes called. Blow moulding is a good method to use when more complex shapes need to be manufactured. Production is fast and provides high reproducibility. The method is also ideal for large production volumes. Some examples of products manufactured with blow moulding are various containers and vessels, toys, products for the health care sector and petrol tanks.
When a product is manufactured using blow moulding, a screw unit feeds plastic granules into a hot tube where the granules are melted into a viscous mass. When the granules are melted, the mass is extracted into the form of a hollow tube. When the tube is the same length as the mould tool, the two halves of the mould close the material into a cavity, then, using air pressure, the tube is inflated against the walls of the mould so that the product assumes the desired shape. Once the plastic has solidified, the mould can be opened and the finished product can be removed.
Streamline your production with Centramec’s complete solutions
There is often a lot of plasticwaste created during the blow moulding process. This waste can be reused directly “in-line” using mills or shredders as well as batch mixers. Centramec delivers complete solutions for material handling and has extensive experience in material handling for blow moulding. Our wide product range includes several granulation mills and mixers to help you reuse your plasticwaste. We can also help to streamline the rest of your material handling by, among other things, using conveying systems, material containers and dosing machines.
