From granules to finished part – in one continuous flow
Injection moulding is the most common method for producing various parts in the Swedish plastics industry. The manufacturing process works very well for both simpler and more complex parts and is a process that can be performed fully automatically and with high reproducibility. Injection moulding also has the advantage of requiring no or very little post-processing and also has no intermediate products between raw material and finished product.
The process of injection moulding consists of a screw unit and a moulding tool, where the screw is fed with plastic granules. The granules are then fed by the screw into the mould tool in cycles. The plastic granules melt with the help of friction heat that is created when the granules are pushed into the closed mould. The tool is tempered to ensure that the plastic solidifies more quickly. When the part has solidified completely, the mould tool opens and the part falls down or is picked out using a robot. Usually, the finished plastic part is handled by a conveyor belt and placed into boxes or pallets via a picking robot for further inspection.
